Wale Edun Engages G-24 Leadership Ahead of Nigeria’s Upcoming Chairmanship

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has met with Dr. Iyabo Masha, Director of the Group of 24 (G-24), as part of preparations for Nigeria’s assumption of the G-24 Chairmanship in 2025/26. The meeting also focused on plans for Abuja to host the G-24 Technical Group Meeting in early 2026.

During the discussions, Edun reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to championing inclusive global growth and strengthening Africa’s representation within the international policy space. He emphasized that Nigeria intends to use its leadership role to push forward key continental priorities, including accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), expanding intra-African trade, building stronger regional value chains, and promoting industrialization powered by renewable energy. He also highlighted the importance of mobilizing long-term investment through green finance and public-private partnerships.

Dr. Masha welcomed Nigeria’s proactive steps and described the country as financially ready to assume leadership. She further underscored the need to align Nigeria’s priorities with ongoing global reforms in trade, industrialization, tax cooperation, and climate finance.
