Treat Informants Same Way as Bandits, Gov. Aliyu Tells Security Agencies

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has ordered security agencies in Sokoto State to treat informants aiding bandits with the same severity as the criminals themselves.

The Governor issued the directive during a condolence visit to Wurno and Rabah Local Government Areas, which were recently attacked by bandits. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to stamping out insecurity, urging rural dwellers to expose anyone living suspiciously or above their means to relevant authorities for investigation.

Governor Aliyu expressed deep concern over what he described as the “informants’ syndrome,” where some unpatriotic citizens provide intelligence to bandits in exchange for money. He warned that such individuals and their accomplices would face the full weight of the law, stressing that none would be spared under the new strategy to combat banditry in the state.

“We are determined to fish out these dastardly informants and those aiding banditry from our rural communities by all means. We therefore appeal for continued support from well-meaning citizens so that lasting peace can return to our communities,” he said.

The Governor also called on Imams across the state to use their sermons to sensitize worshippers on the dangers of banditry and the Islamic stance against criminality. He highlighted his administration’s efforts to strengthen security, including the provision of additional vehicles and motorcycles for patrols, improved welfare for security personnel, and the creation of the Community Guard Corps.

Aliyu reassured residents that his government would continue to support security agencies in the ongoing fight against banditry. He thanked the people of Sokoto for their prayers and solidarity, urging them to sustain their cooperation with government efforts to restore peace.
