The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over reports of an Israeli airstrike on September 9, 2025, in Doha, Qatar, which allegedly targeted senior members of the Hamas leadership.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of nations and adhering to international law, particularly in matters involving the use of force across borders. The government noted that the incident raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Nigeria acknowledged Qatar’s longstanding role as a mediator and facilitator of dialogue in the Middle East, emphasizing that the country has been instrumental in supporting peace initiatives. Against this backdrop, Nigeria called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, avoid further escalation, and recommit to peaceful engagement.
The Federal Government extended its sympathies to those affected by the strike and reiterated its unwavering support for initiatives that promote dialogue, de-escalation, and durable peace in the region. It further affirmed its commitment to working with the international community, within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, to advance global peace, security, and the rule of law.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Abuja on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
