INEC Publishes List of Nominated Candidates Ahead of February 2026 FCT Area Council Elections

With 150 days to the February 21, 2026 Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the full names and addresses of all nominated candidates.

The Administrative Secretary of INEC, FCT, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, supervised the display on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Commission’s FCT office on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris. She explained that the publication was in compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates INEC to undertake such public display at least 150 days before election day.

According to her, the display of nominated candidates will be carried out simultaneously across all INEC offices within the FCT and on the Commission’s official website.

Mrs. Oladunjoye advised political parties that have fielded candidates to carefully review the published lists in order to notify INEC of any errors or omissions in their candidates’ details. She noted that such corrections must be submitted within the 90-day window to the election, in writing, signed by the affected party’s National Chairman and Secretary, and supported with an affidavit.

She further emphasized that failure of any political party to comply with this provision of the Electoral Act would not serve as a ground to invalidate the February 2026 Area Council Elections.
