President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has praised Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti for revitalizing Aba, the Enyimba City, during the commissioning of major road projects at the Enyimba International Stadium on Friday.
Addressing a large crowd of Abians, President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, highlighted the completion of the 6.7-kilometre, six-lane dual carriage Port Harcourt Road, alongside other key roads including Ohanku Road, Ndoki Road, Ajiwe Street, Pepple’s Road, Gabriel Nwosu, Nkoro, and Umuatako Roads. He commended the Governor for restoring the state’s infrastructural and economic vibrancy.
“Through Governor Otti, Abia people have taken back their State, restoring its lost glory. Your Governor is a sound economist, and I have no doubt that, under his leadership, Aba and the state at large will fully recover,” President Tinubu stated. He also praised Abians for their support and emphasized the role of the federal government in assisting sub-national development, citing benefits from the removal of fuel subsidy that are funding infrastructural projects nationwide.
Governor Otti described the commissioned roads as transformative for Aba’s economy and social life. “Port Harcourt Road, which reflected Aba’s decline in the past, has now returned triumphantly. The economic impact of these roads could significantly boost Aba’s GDP and trade volume with other business capitals,” he said.
During the ceremony, Governor Otti requested federal support to develop a functional rail network in the Southeast and South-South regions and optimize nearby seaports to enhance exports. He also assured attendees, in response to a request by Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, that discussions with the President regarding the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are ongoing and that a resolution is forthcoming.
Other dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, commended Governor Otti’s projects and urged continued partnership between state and federal governments to sustain good governance. The event also featured the conferment of the chieftaincy title “Ụdọ Kpụ Enyi 1 of Abia State” on President Tinubu by the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, led by Chairman Eze Linus Nto Mbah.
The commissioning ceremony drew widespread enthusiasm from residents and dignitaries, highlighting Aba’s renewed status as a thriving economic hub.
