Kobe, Japan — The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abu Dantsoho, is attending the 2025 World Port Conference (#IAPH2025) in Kobe, Japan, alongside the Executive Directors of Finance and Administration and Marine & Operations. The prestigious conference, held at the iconic Hotel Εkura Kobe, is themed “Reinvention and Prosperity in Turbulent Times” and gathers port executives, policymakers, and industry leaders from more than 89 countries.
The conference provides a platform to address critical challenges facing the global maritime sector, with a particular focus on energy transition, decarbonization, digitalization, and resilience. These discussions directly align with NPA’s strategic initiatives, including the push for port automation and the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APM Terminals to electrify container freight operations, aiming to reduce the Authority’s carbon footprint.
During the conference, Dr. Dantsoho is scheduled to tour Kobe’s port facilities to study seismic-resilient infrastructure and smart logistics systems. Insights from these tours are expected to inform ongoing projects under the NPA Port Modernization Program, ensuring that Nigerian ports remain competitive, efficient, and climate-resilient.
Beyond technical exchanges, Dr. Dantsoho is engaging with investors and industry stakeholders to explore partnerships that could enhance the Authority’s infrastructure and modernize equipment across Nigerian ports. These collaborations are intended to strengthen operational efficiency, support trade growth, and accelerate Nigeria’s maritime sector development.
The NPA delegation’s participation underscores the Authority’s commitment to adopting global best practices, advancing sustainable port operations, and fostering innovation in line with international standards. Through strategic engagement at forums such as the IAPH Conference, NPA continues to position Nigeria as a competitive and forward-looking maritime hub in Africa.
