The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is deepening collaboration with Finnish cybersecurity experts to bolster Nigeria’s cybersecurity frameworks, ensure compliance, and promote sustainable digital resilience across public and private sectors.

The agreement emerged during a courtesy visit by a Finnish delegation led by Ms. Maria Ruuskanen to the NITDA Headquarters in Abuja. The delegation engaged with officials to explore strategies for enhancing cybersecurity governance, capacity building, and adherence to global best practices.

Receiving the visitors, NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, stressed the importance of institutionalizing regular cybersecurity compliance checks for data centers and government institutions. He noted that while NITDA currently issues licenses and sets standards, embedding periodic maturity assessments and sustainability frameworks is critical to ensuring ongoing adherence to international benchmarks.

Ms. Ruuskanen commended NITDA’s proactive stance on cybersecurity, emphasizing that raising awareness and fostering collaboration are key to mitigating modern cyber threats. “Once people realise the importance of cybersecurity and allow professionals to manage complex systems, better outcomes follow,” she observed.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts in developing robust cybersecurity frameworks in Nigeria. Their collaboration will focus on regular compliance assessments, skill development, and long-term sustainability, aimed at securing the nation’s digital ecosystem and fostering confidence in technology-driven initiatives.
