Three persons suspected of involvement in the killing of the traditional ruler of Kwallak Community in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Ponzhi Kwallak, were set ablaze by an angry mob on Friday evening.

The monarch was reportedly killed on Thursday night after assailants stormed his residence, killed him, and took away his motorcycle and mobile phone. Multiple community sources said the incident threw the area into mourning and heightened tension.

According to residents quoted in reports, the three suspects were later apprehended on Friday while allegedly attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle. They were reportedly being taken to security operatives when a mob intercepted them and set them ablaze near the Langtang North Local Government Council Secretariat.

One villager, identified as Moses Yakubu, said the traditional ruler had recently received the motorcycle and was later attacked at home by persons who allegedly shot him, took his phone, and fled with the motorcycle.

As of the time of reporting, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued a detailed public statement confirming the identities of the suspects or the full circumstances of the monarch’s killing. Efforts by reporters to reach the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful. (Punch Newspapers)

The incident has renewed concern over both violent attacks in Plateau communities and the danger of mob action, where suspects are killed before formal investigation and trial.
