The Zonal Coordinator, Zone 'C' of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG) Sambo Dangaladima, has paid a maiden official visit to the Imo/Abia Area Command in Owerri. The visit, which took place on July 9, 2025, was part of a zonal tour directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to assess operational conditions across all commands within Zone 'C'.

During the visit, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Imo/Abia Command, Comptroller Friday Akpan, briefed the Zonal Coordinator on the command's performance. The command generated a total revenue of ₦19,896,955,655.99 between January and June 2025. Despite security challenges disrupting trade activities in Imo and Abia States, the command's officers remained undeterred and continued to work hard to meet revenue targets.

The CAC highlighted the need for improved manpower and infrastructure, appealing for the deployment of more junior officers to bolster guard duties amid rising insecurity. He also urged the Service to consider installing sporting and recreational facilities in the command in line with the CGC's Work-Life Balance initiative. The Zonal Coordinator assured the command that their challenges would be documented and communicated to the Service headquarters, promising to provide necessary support to enhance their performance.

Stakeholders from bonded terminals and excise factories lauded the Nigeria Customs Service for introducing a new Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) known as B'odogwu. They described it as a transformative step that would significantly simplify and facilitate trade procedures across the region.

ACG Dangaladima praised the officers' professionalism and urged them to remain committed. He noted that the CGC is fully aware of their efforts and appreciates their contributions to national revenue and security. The Zonal Coordinator encouraged the officers not to relent in their efforts to meet and exceed expectations.

The visit by ACG Dangaladima demonstrates the NCS's commitment to supporting its commands and officers in achieving their goals. The Imo/Abia Command's revenue generation and challenges highlight the need for continued support and improvement in infrastructure and manpower. The introduction of the UCMS is expected to simplify trade procedures and enhance the efficiency of customs operations in the region.
