The Plateau State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Caroline Panglang Dafur, has called on all stakeholders to work together to combat human trafficking in the state. Speaking on the occasion of the International Day Against Human Trafficking, Dafur emphasized the need for collaboration to fight the menace, which has assumed a worrying trend in the state.
Dafur noted that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, is responsive to the plight of the people, especially as it relates to child trafficking. She appealed to parents not to entrust their children to the care of strangers and urged them to work towards protecting their children.
The Chairperson of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Rights Commission, Barr. Olivia Dazyam, highlighted the importance of community participation in the fight against human trafficking. She emphasized that trafficking of persons, particularly children, has many implications and called on all stakeholders, traditional leaders, and parents to take responsibility and be more vigilant.
The event, which was attended by various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, security agencies, and volunteers, received goodwill messages from prominent individuals. They commended the government for creating awareness about human trafficking and pledged their support in the fight against the menace.
The Permanent Secretary of the Women Affairs ministry, Barr. Rebecca Shaseet, expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for his approval and support of the event. She also commended the commissioner, Action Aid, stakeholders, traditional leaders, security agencies, and volunteers for standing in solidarity against human trafficking.
The commemoration of the International Day Against Human Trafficking in Plateau State highlights the need for collective action to combat the menace. The state's government and stakeholders must work together to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and ensure that those responsible for human trafficking are held accountable.
