Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has urged the management of Niger State Polytechnic Zungeru to partner with Niger Foods to cultivate the institution's vast land and boost food production. The governor made the call when he received members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics Zone A, led by its Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Abdulaziz Ibrahim Badaru.
Governor Bago noted that the polytechnic has vast land that is underutilized and challenged the management to key into the idea to cultivate the available land. He believes that this will not only boost agricultural production but also give students studying agriculture-related courses an edge.
The governor mentioned that the recent agreement signed with the Dangote Group is an investment that will serve as an opportunity for the people of Wushishi and surrounding areas to tap into and improve their livelihoods.
Governor Bago appreciated the state polytechnic and Federal Polytechnic Bida for providing technical assistance that has helped improve the state. He described polytechnics as a hub for producing technicians and scientists and reassured the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of his continued support for education.
The ASUP had honored Governor Bago with an award of excellence for human capital development in technical and vocational education. The union's zonal coordinator, Dr. Abdulaziz Ibrahim Badaru, praised the governor's efforts towards human capital development and acknowledged his remarkable developmental achievements in Niger State.
However, the union demanded that the governor set up a governing council for the polytechnic to enhance its functionalities.
Governor Bago's call for the polytechnic to partner with Niger Foods is a step towards boosting food production and promoting agricultural development in the state. The partnership is expected to benefit the students and the community, and the governor's support for education is a welcome development.
