The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), has successfully concluded a four-week short-term vocational training programme aimed at equipping vulnerable women and youth with critical life and business skills.
The programme, held at the Skills Acquisition Centre, Lagos Island, in collaboration with the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, is part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to grassroots empowerment under the leadership of Honourable Commissioner Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada.
At the official closing ceremony held on Monday, August 4, 2025, Hon. Dada reaffirmed the State Government’s dedication to uplifting the socio-economic status of residents, particularly the less privileged. This marks another milestone following the recent empowerment initiative in Agbowa-Ikosi.
> “We are proud of the commitment this administration has made to empower our people. Programmes like this do not just transfer skills — they unlock futures, promote dignity, and drive economic growth,” Hon. Dada stated.
The intensive training covered high-demand vocational skills such as:
Fabric stoning
Paint making
Soap production
Event decoration
Catering services
Participants received practical, hands-on training and were presented with certificates and starter packs to help them launch small-scale businesses immediately in their chosen areas.
The closing event featured a vibrant exhibition of products made by the trainees and drew attendance from key stakeholders including:
Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, Permanent Secretary, WAPA
Religious and community leaders
Alhaji Ibrahim Sulaimon Ajao, Empowerment Secretary
Alhaja Adeyemo Fatimat, Coordinator, Ansarudeen Society, Lagos Island branch
This initiative aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda, focusing on social development, inclusive growth, and economic empowerment through skill acquisition and community-based intervention.
Hon. Dada encouraged all graduands to utilise the knowledge gained to build sustainable livelihoods and become change agents within their communities.
