Nigeria Congratulates Jamaica on 61st Independence Anniversary, Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Republic of Jamaica on the occasion of its 61st Independence Anniversary, reaffirming a long-standing bond of friendship and cultural heritage shared between the two nations.

In a message conveyed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Her Excellency Kamina Johnson Smith, Nigeria praised Jamaica’s resilience, unity, and achievements over the past six decades.

“Nigeria and Jamaica share deep historical and cultural ties rooted in a common heritage, resilience, and a shared commitment to the advancement of the African diaspora,” Ambassador Tuggar noted.

The Minister commended Jamaica’s notable progress in governance, education, culture, sports, and sustainable development—areas where the Caribbean nation continues to earn global admiration and respect.

Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Jamaica, especially in the areas of trade, education, tourism, sports, and cultural exchange, all aimed at fostering deeper connections and mutual development between both peoples.

“As Jamaica marks this auspicious occasion, Nigeria joins in the spirit of unity, pride, and celebration,” the message added, highlighting hopes for increased collaboration within international platforms such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth.

The statement concluded with an expression of optimism for continued peace, prosperity, and shared progress across both nations and the wider global community.
