Nigeria may be witnessing a pivotal shift in its national security strategy, as the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, declared during the maiden edition of the Monthly Joint Security Press Briefing held at the NOA Conference Hall in Abuja.

Addressing members of the press and top security stakeholders, Issa-Onilu hailed the country’s unified security efforts as a “national turning point,” citing remarkable achievements across several agencies in recent months. These include the arrest of over 2,000 suspects, the rescue of 175 kidnap victims, and the seizure of nearly 3 million kilograms of narcotics.

“This is not just a press briefing,” Issa-Onilu stated. “It is the beginning of a new chapter in public accountability, civic engagement, and national trust. From the North-East to the Niger Delta, our security forces are reclaiming peace—one operation at a time.”

The event, which marks the start of a monthly inter-agency update to the public, brought together security powerhouses such as the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, EFCC, Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, and FRSC. Each agency shared data-backed achievements, reinforcing the government’s renewed focus on transparency and proactive security communication.

Key highlights revealed during the briefing include:

Dismantling of major human trafficking networks

Recovery of ₦752.2 million in stolen crude oil

Successful rehabilitation of criminal offenders and inmates

Mallam Issa-Onilu emphasized that beyond these milestones, citizen participation remains central to sustaining progress. He called on Nigerians to safeguard national infrastructure, report threats, and embrace truthfulness and civic responsibility as part of their everyday lives.

“Security begins at home—in our values, in truthfulness, and in our collective resolve,” he concluded, urging the media and citizens alike to stand as partners in the country’s fight against insecurity.

Journalists present engaged with representatives from each security agency in a robust Q&A session, with all questions addressed openly. The event ended with a strong call for unity, vigilance, and national responsibility.
