DANGIWA REAFFIRMS FG’S COMMITMENT TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, URGES COOPERATIVES TO PARTICIPATE IN RENEWED HOPE PROGRAMME

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to delivering affordable and dignified housing to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme of the present administration.

The Minister made this known while receiving the President of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Cooperative Society, Abdullahi Yusuf, and his team during a courtesy visit to his office.

Dangiwa described the Renewed Hope Housing Programme as a comprehensive, people-centered initiative structured to cater to all income levels:

> “The programme has three core components,” the Minister explained.

“Renewed Hope Cities, funded through Public-Private Partnerships in six locations, are targeted at high-income earners; Renewed Hope Estates in 30 states are designed for middle- and low-income earners; and the upcoming Renewed Hope Social Housing focuses on vulnerable, displaced persons and zero-income earners.”

He stated that the Ministry is already engaging with state governments to secure land for housing projects, while developers and financial institutions like the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Family Homes Fund will drive project delivery and access to finance.

Speaking directly to cooperative societies, the Minister emphasized their critical role in housing development, highlighting the availability of single-digit interest loans repayable over 30 years through the FMBN. He also outlined alternative options, including:

Ethical mortgage models,

Rent-to-Own schemes, and

Cooperative housing development loans designed to support bulk housing projects for members.

> “This is the time to mobilize your members, secure land, identify needs and approach FMBN or the Ministry for support,” he advised.

“If you're an NHF contributor, you're eligible for mortgage assistance.”

He encouraged cooperatives to partner with credible developers, ensure land security and certification, and conduct thorough due diligence to avoid fraud.

Responding to a query on the Brains and Hammers Bungalow City, Dangiwa assured that the Ministry and FMBN were actively working with the developer to resolve any outstanding issues amicably.

Earlier in his remarks, Abdullahi Yusuf, President of the NHIA Cooperative, appreciated the Minister for his intervention in helping members access homes under the FMBN Rent-to-Own scheme. He recounted the Cooperative’s earlier financial challenges with a private developer that failed to deliver on promises.

> “When I heard about the Rent-to-Own product initiated by you, I knew this was the right path. We’re now working directly with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and that gives us hope,” Yusuf stated.

He disclosed that 36 members have already been allocated houses at the Brains and Hammers Bungalow City in Kubwa, Abuja, and are now set to take ownership.

Yusuf also proposed a bulk payment arrangement from source to replace monthly deductions, saying this would ease the financial burden on members under the Rent-to-Own scheme.

He expressed deep appreciation to the Minister:

> “What you have done for us, we will never forget. I wrote the request letter with little expectation, but when I got to FMBN, I learned that you had already taken action—writing twice and even setting up a committee headed by an Executive Director to address it.”
