Lagos State Commissions Seven Road Projects Across Badagry, Deepening Infrastructure into Communities

Published on 8 August 2025 at 09:39

In a significant stride toward equitable development and improved connectivity, seven completed road projects have been commissioned across more than eight communities in Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda LCDA, marking another milestone in Lagos State’s infrastructural renewal drive.

The newly commissioned roads span over 16 kilometers, serving as vital arteries that now link residents more efficiently to markets, schools, health centers, and key cultural heritage locations.

One of the most impactful projects is the Samuel Ekundayo-Toga Road, which has undergone a full transformation from a narrow single-lane to a dual carriageway complete with standard drainage infrastructure. This upgrade significantly improves traffic flow and offers easier access to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, helping to reduce congestion in hotspots like Limca, Ibereko, and the Badagry Roundabout.

Another major upgrade is the rehabilitation of Hospital Road, which now provides smoother access to some of Badagry's most iconic landmarks, including:

Agbalata Market

Nigeria’s First Storey Building

The Heritage Museum

Other cultural and historical sites that form the core of Badagry’s unique legacy

> “Badagry holds deep economic and cultural significance not just for Lagos, but for Nigeria,” the statement read. “As a gateway to five West African countries, it has the potential to become a major hub for tourism and cross-border trade.”

The commissioning reflects the state government’s inclusive development philosophy — ensuring that rural and coastal communities are not left behind as infrastructure expands beyond metropolitan centers.

The administration acknowledged the ongoing projects in communities like Oko Afo, Ilogbo, Eremi, and Pota, and expressed gratitude to residents for their patience. The state assured that work is progressing and remains a top priority.

> “Good infrastructure goes beyond roads and bridges. It creates access, opens up opportunity, and gives communities a stronger foundation to grow,” the statement concluded. “Badagry, this is just the beginning.”
