The Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, welcomed high-level delegations from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) at the ministry’s headquarters in Akure.

The series of engagements underscored the Ministry's strategic intent to foster cross-sector partnerships that will accelerate energy development, improve infrastructure, and support sustainable energy access across Ondo State.

NIMC Partnership and the New e-ID Card

Receiving officials from NIMC, Engr. Alabi highlighted the critical role of accurate identity management in planning and executing development projects. He urged stakeholders and the private sector to support NIMC’s initiatives, especially the rollout of its new digital and physical e-ID card, which is set to revolutionize citizen verification processes in Nigeria.

The NIMC team shared collaborative opportunities with the Ministry, including energy-data integration for improved service delivery.

NUJ Commended for Media Advocacy

Engr. Alabi also hosted members of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, expressing gratitude for their balanced reportage and continued efforts in informing the public about the State Government’s strides in the energy sector.

He acknowledged the media’s crucial role in public enlightenment, particularly in tackling challenges such as estimated electricity billing, energy consumer rights, and distribution franchise matters involving BEDC and other service providers.

NSE: Driving Engineering Excellence in Energy

In his meeting with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Commissioner praised the body’s technical contributions to the state’s energy sector. He specifically referenced Ondo State's full regulatory autonomy granted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), placing the state among the first in Nigeria to attain such a milestone.

“This achievement reflects the competence of our engineers and our strategic push for localized energy control,” Alabi stated.

He assured all visiting delegations of the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to results-driven collaboration that aligns with the Aiyedatiwa-led administration’s development agenda.

Government’s Commitment Remains Unshaken

The engagements reflect the Ministry’s approach to inclusive governance through institutional synergy, technical collaboration, and information transparency.
