In a major crackdown on the illegal practice of law, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Udu Branch, has arrested and secured the conviction of one Alex Young Vweta Egone, who had been falsely parading himself as a legal practitioner within Udu and its environs.
According to reports, Egone was apprehended on August 2, 2025, following multiple complaints about his unlawful legal activities. The arrest was executed by members of the NBA Udu Committee on the Prohibition of Unlawful Practice of Law Without License — D.O. Omage Esq., G.O. Fenfe Esq., and Odogun Stanley Esq.
He was immediately handed over to officers at the Ovwian Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State, where investigations revealed disturbing evidence.
> "Upon his arrest, documents such as deeds of conveyance, multiple police petitions authored by him, and forged legal materials — including a fake NBA stamp and seal, and a Supreme Court number belonging to a licensed lawyer — were recovered from his possession," said D.O. Omage Esq., Chairman of the NBA Udu Committee on the Prohibition of Unlawful Practice.
Also discovered was a personal ink pad and stamp inscribed with his name, further confirming his attempt to impersonate a licensed attorney.
Egone was arraigned on August 5, 2025, before Magistrate Court 1, Otor-Udu, where he pleaded guilty to charges of impersonation and forgery filed against him by the police.
The Court, after hearing submissions, found him guilty and sentenced him to:
1.5 years imprisonment for each of the first three counts, and
2 years imprisonment for the fourth count.
The sentences are to run consecutively, making it a total of 6.5 years behind bars.
The NBA Udu was fully represented at the proceedings by D.O. Omage Esq. and G.O. Fenfe Esq. The convicted impersonator has since been transferred to the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Warri, Delta State.
This action underscores the NBA Udu Branch's commitment to preserving the sanctity and integrity of the legal profession.
