POLICE BRUTALITY ALERT: CSP Leads Coordinated Torture of Omoyele Sowore Inside Detention Cell

Published on 11 August 2025 at 14:27

In a deeply disturbing account of human rights abuse, pro-democracy activist Omoyele Sowore has publicly accused a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit of orchestrating a violent and illegal assault against him inside his detention cell at the Force Intelligence Department (FID), located directly opposite the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Sowore, the CSP—whose image is pictured above—led eight armed officers into his cell at 6:00 AM on Thursday, August 7, 2025, under the guise of transporting him to court. Instead of a court appearance, what unfolded was a coordinated, brutal, and potentially fatal assault, allegedly premeditated and fully sanctioned by senior figures within the police hierarchy.

> "This was not an isolated act of brutality; it was premeditated, coordinated, and sanctioned violence by the IGP Monitoring Unit," Sowore declared in a public statement.

๐Ÿ“ The Location of the Attack

The assault reportedly occurred inside Sowore’s holding cell at the Force Intelligence Department, just meters away from the Nigeria Police Force's highest office. The proximity to top police command underlines what many are calling a systemic culture of impunity within the nation's security apparatus.

โŒ An Abuse of Power—With Impunity

Stone Reporters News condemns this act in the strongest possible terms. This incident represents yet another example of Nigeria's increasing descent into police lawlessness, where officers trained to protect the public are now routinely accused of acting as political enforcers and tormentors of dissenting voices.

This act of state-sponsored violence is not only an attack on Sowore but also a direct assault on freedom of speech, human dignity, and the rule of law in Nigeria.

๐Ÿงพ Demands for Accountability

We at Stone Reporters News call for:

Immediate suspension and investigation of the officers involved, particularly the CSP identified by Sowore.

A transparent inquiry into the role of the IGP Monitoring Unit in the attack.

Protection of all political prisoners and detainees from further torture and abuse.

The international community to take notice and apply diplomatic pressure on Nigerian authorities to end the cycle of police brutality and state repression.
