CROSS RIVER TAKES FLIGHT: VP SHETTIMA COMMISSIONS NEW CALLY AIRCRAFT

Published on 13 August 2025 at 06:55

In a landmark event that has stirred pride and optimism across Cross River State, Vice President Kashim Shettima, standing in for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, officially commissioned two new aircraft for Cally Air at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar.

The commissioning marks a bold step forward in Governor Bassey Otu’s aviation and economic development agenda, as the state’s fleet grows from two to four aircraft—with three more in the pipeline.

“Today, my heart swelled with pride for our dear Cross River State,” Governor Otu shared, reflecting on the significance of the day.

“With Cally Air expanding, we are not just growing a fleet—we are building Cross River into an aviation hub for Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.”

The Vice President commended the Governor’s vision, which ties together decades of progressive leadership—tourism development under Donald Duke, rural transformation under Liyel Imoke, and industrialization led by Ben Ayade—into what Governor Otu now calls “a single, powerful drive toward a diversified, self-reliant economy.”

The Governor expressed his gratitude to the people of Cross River for their belief in a shared future:

“I am deeply grateful for the Vice President’s commendation, but even more thankful to the people of Cross River, whose belief in our shared dream makes days like this possible.”

With renewed focus on tourism, infrastructure, and aviation, the Governor affirmed that this expansion is not just a milestone, but a symbol of “Renewed Hope in action.”

Cally Air’s expansion is poised to create new jobs, boost inter-state connectivity, and attract investment into the region—placing Cross River firmly on the map as a rising force in West African aviation and development.
