Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has charged Lagos State civil servants to be well-versed in government policies and activities, stressing the importance of speaking from a position of knowledge at all times.

The Governor made the call during a virtual session of the Lagos State Public Service Accelerator Programme’s Fireside Chat Series, themed “Experiential Learning with Communication, Courtesy, and Credibility: Humanising Public Institutions.”

Describing the initiative as “an excellent platform for continuous learning,” Sanwo-Olu urged participants to adopt a “Pass-It-On” approach to knowledge sharing within their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He emphasised that sustained learning is vital for both personal and professional growth.

The Governor also reiterated his belief that human capital development is as important as infrastructure development, adding:

“We must build our people if we are to secure a better future for Lagos State.”

Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that the programme would become a permanent fixture in the State’s public service system, with the inaugural participants laying a strong foundation for its growth.

Earlier, Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo, explained that the Public Service Accelerator Programme is designed to equip officers with leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills to enhance service delivery, resolve conflicts, and drive positive change.

According to him, the initiative promotes a sustainable learning culture within MDAs through its “Pass-It-On” model, encourages digital tool adoption, fosters policy innovation, and boosts morale by aligning personal growth with organisational goals.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, revealed that 100 participants were selected through a rigorous interview process ensuring gender balance across MDAs. She recalled that the programme was officially launched on May 29, 2025, with top state officials and dignitaries in attendance.

Since its launch, participants have benefited from sessions on personal branding, effective communication, workplace relationships, mental health, cyber security, financial literacy, artificial intelligence in governance, and more. They have also taken part in case studies, team projects, and mentorship sessions with Permanent Secretaries to gain practical insights.

The Fireside Chat with the Governor marked a key milestone in the programme’s calendar, reinforcing its mission to nurture a professional, skilled, and innovative public service ready to meet the evolving demands of governance in Lagos State.
