Police operatives attached to the Oba Division have arrested a 63-year-old woman, Ngozi Muotuanya, of Awkuzu-Oba, in connection with the theft of a one-year-old boy from Minna, Niger State.
The arrest, made on August 11, 2025, followed credible intelligence aimed at tackling a wave of child disappearances in Oba and surrounding communities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that in 2024, the suspect allegedly abducted the child in Minna and sold him to an unsuspecting buyer in Anambra State. The child was later resold to another person.
However, on August 4, 2025, the latest buyer, upon discovering the boy had been stolen, returned him to the principal suspect. Muotuanya is alleged to have then abandoned the child at an unidentified church in Minna, where he was eventually rescued by the Leader of the Igbo Community in the city.
The Anambra State Police Command has since shared details about the child’s current custodian with the Niger State Police Command for possible recovery, reunification with his parents, and further necessary action.
The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka for a discreet investigation and prosecution.
