In what military sources have described as a deadly failed ambush, troops of 145 Battalion Damasak under Operation HADIN KAI have neutralised scores of Boko Haram terrorists in Kareto, Borno State.
The insurgents had planted and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) before opening direct fire on the advancing troops. However, the soldiers swiftly executed anti-ambush drills, outflanking the terrorists and killing many on the spot.
A post-battle search of the ambush site yielded significant arms and logistics haul, including:
-
1 PKT Automatic Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun
-
1 AK-47 Rifle & 4 magazines
-
Large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition
-
2 x 36 Hand Grenades
-
Motorola battery, power bank, motorcycle pump, rifle butt, motorcycle, 12 blankets, wires, and other sundry items.
In a separate offensive, troops of 233 Battalion with Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operatives under Sector 2 engaged terrorists in Sassawa village, Yobe State, neutralising two insurgents and recovering 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 magazine, and 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Military authorities say the operations reflect the resilience and aggressive posture of Operation HADIN KAI forces in denying terrorists freedom of action and sustaining pressure until their total defeat.
