In a decisive step to uphold transparency and accountability in local governance, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has inaugurated a three-member investigative panel to probe allegations of misconduct against the suspended Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Council.

The panel will be chaired by Justice Abdullahi Mikhail, a respected High Court judge, with Barr. Bala Marika and Alh. Abubakar Salisu as members, while Barr. Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida will serve as Secretary.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Bago — fondly called the Farmer Governor — emphasized that the move was in strict compliance with the Niger State Local Government Law 2001 (as amended). He urged the panel to ensure fairness, diligence, and impartiality, noting that the integrity of the process is paramount to restoring public trust.

“We have a responsibility to handle this matter in line with the law and with utmost transparency,” the Governor said, pledging full support to the panel as it carries out its duties.

The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barr. Nasiru Mu’azu, explained that the panel’s mandate includes:

  • Investigating the specific allegations of misconduct.

  • Gathering and examining evidence.

  • Taking sworn statements from witnesses.

The panel’s findings are expected to shape the next steps in what could be a defining moment for governance in Chanchaga Local Government Area.
