Police Service Commission to Decentralise Recruitment, Launch New Portal for 2025 Exercise

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a major reform in the country’s police recruitment process following a consultative meeting with recruitment desk officers from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) held yesterday in Abuja.

The Commission disclosed that the 2025 police recruitment exercise will be decentralised, allowing state recruitment desk officers to play significant roles in the process. This move, according to the PSC, is designed to strengthen inclusiveness, transparency, and fairness in the system.

As part of the reforms, the Commission has introduced a newly developed recruitment portal, which will be deployed for both the recruitment of Commission staff and all categories of police officers. The portal will also grant access to key stakeholders – the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Character Commission – to ensure transparency and reduce corruption and nepotism.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd, mni), expressed confidence in the collaboration with state desk officers, noting that they remain the immediate beneficiaries of the recruitment process. He assured Nigerians that the Commission is committed to building a Police Force the nation will be proud of.

“The Commission is happy to partner with the State Desk Officers to ensure that the interests of all parties are protected. We will continue to do our best to give the nation a Police Force it will be proud of,” Argungu stated.

The Commission also advised the public that going forward, all police recruitment will be conducted exclusively through the new portal, which will be opened once the 2025 recruitment exercise commences.
