The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command, has set a new half-year revenue record, collecting ₦89.2 billion between January and June 2025 while intensifying its enforcement against smuggling with major seizures.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, 15 August 2025, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Joy Edelduok, attributed the remarkable performance to a mix of strategic reforms, discipline, and enforcement measures.

Record Revenue Performance

According to Comptroller Edelduok, the Command generated ₦89,205,500,741.85 in the first half of 2025, representing a 63 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, which stood at ₦54,806,893,697.00.

She stated:

“The first half of 2025 was active and productive, driven by a firm commitment to increasing revenue, supporting legitimate trade, and tackling smuggling in all its forms.”

Major Anti-Smuggling Seizures

In its enforcement drive, the Command intercepted two 40-foot containers of expired pharmaceuticals valued at ₦130 million. The CAC confirmed that the items violated the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other import regulations.

Edelduok stressed the Command’s zero tolerance for illegal imports:

“The Command remains committed to applying the law without compromise to protect public health and uphold transparency, accountability, and professionalism in all operations.”

Stakeholder Collaboration

The CAC expressed appreciation to stakeholders and partner agencies, describing their cooperation as vital to achieving the Command’s mandate and boosting the national economy.

She also commended her officers for their diligence and discipline, urging them to sustain their commitment and uphold Customs values in their daily duties.

The seized pharmaceuticals were officially handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), represented by Commander Ashiru Abdullahi, who praised the synergy between the NCS and NDLEA in protecting Nigeria from harmful imports.
