Lagos Commissioner for Tourism Hosts Oloja of Lagos-Elect, Partners Stakeholders to Boost Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment

The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, played host to key cultural and entertainment stakeholders in a series of high-profile engagements aimed at strengthening Lagos’ position as Africa’s leading cultural and creative hub.

Her office in Alausa, Ikeja, received His Royal Majesty, Abiola Olojo-Kosoko, Oloja of Lagos-elect, during a courtesy visit.

Discussions focused on leveraging Lagos’ cultural heritage, historic sites, and traditional institutions to enhance tourism while preserving the city’s history. Both parties agreed on the need for deeper collaboration between the State Government and traditional institutions to position Lagos as a premier cultural destination in Africa.

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka commended the Oloja-elect for his commitment to cultural preservation, reaffirming government’s readiness to support initiatives that safeguard heritage while boosting tourism-driven development.

Partnership with Bestman Games

In another engagement, the Commissioner hosted Ambassador Nimi Akinkugbe, Founder of Bestman Games, renowned for producing the City of Lagos Monopoly Edition—the first African city version of the iconic board game.

Discussions centered on expanding creative editions of Monopoly and card games as innovative platforms for showcasing Lagos landmarks, strengthening cultural education, and promoting tourism.

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka described the partnership as a creative fusion of culture and entertainment, underscoring the importance of integrating education and tourism into game-based experiences.

Entertainment Stakeholders’ Visit

The Commissioner also welcomed Mr. Sunday Are, Manager to Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, alongside Terry Alexander (Terry Apala) and his crew. The talks highlighted strategies to expand the global reach of Nigerian music, promote talent development, and sustain Lagos’ dominance in Africa’s creative and entertainment industries.

She praised their dedication to promoting Nigerian music internationally and pledged the State Government’s continued support in positioning Lagos as the epicentre of African music, culture, and entertainment.
