The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Baro Port Restoration, led by Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, CON, has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving the Baro Inland Port and its supporting infrastructure, describing the project as a critical national asset.

The committee made this known during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, in Minna, as part of its oversight tour of the port and related facilities, including access roads, rail connections, and waterways.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Rt. Hon. Wase said the restoration of Baro Port holds immense economic potential for Nigeria.

“The Baro Port is a strategic infrastructure that can exponentially boost Nigeria’s GDP, create massive employment opportunities, and open up new business prospects. We urge stakeholders at all levels to prioritize its restoration and operationalization,” he stated.

The committee stressed that the revival of the port would enhance inland waterway transport, reduce road congestion, and expand trade and investment opportunities.

In his remarks, Governor Bago welcomed the delegation and commended their oversight efforts, pledging Niger State’s full support for the project.

“The state government is ready to collaborate with federal authorities, traditional institutions, and local communities to ensure that Baro Port succeeds as a driver of regional and national development,” he said.

Governor Bago also hosted the delegation to breakfast and offered them a brief tour and history of the Government House before formal discussions began.

The committee’s visit marks a renewed push to operationalize the long-stalled Baro Inland Port, which has been the subject of several government interventions over the years. Stakeholders are hopeful that coordinated efforts between federal and state governments will finally unlock its potential.
