The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has disbursed ₦286.7 million in scholarships and bursaries to 4,873 students from the oil-producing areas of the state under its 2023/2024 Scholarship and Bursary Scheme.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Oba-Ile, was performed by the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Oluwaseun Easter Aiyedatiwa, who described the initiative as a life-changing investment in education and the empowerment of future leaders.

Mrs. Aiyedatiwa noted that over 5,000 students benefited in the 2022/2023 cycle, stressing that the scheme has consistently eased the financial burdens of students from Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.

“This scheme reflects our collective resolve to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education. It demonstrates Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to building a brighter future for children and youths through education, empowerment, and inclusive governance,” she said.

She also commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his “OUR EASE” policy thrust, which prioritizes people-centered governance with a focus on education, infrastructure, healthcare, economic empowerment, and security.

Encouraging the beneficiaries, Mrs. Aiyedatiwa urged students to make the best use of the financial support and serve as ambassadors of the state in their respective academic and professional pursuits.

Earlier, OSOPADEC Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Poroye, highlighted that the 2023/2024 award cycle was the fastest approval and disbursement ever undertaken since the inception of the programme. He assured that the 2024/2025 cycle would be rolled out without delays, underscoring the commission’s renewed efficiency.

Poroye added that OSOPADEC has expanded its mandate beyond scholarships, with ongoing efforts in school renovations, provision of learning materials, teacher training, infrastructure development, and community welfare projects.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for repositioning the commission, saying this has strengthened OSOPADEC’s ability to deliver tangible impact to residents of oil-producing communities.
