In a decisive move against insecurity, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern ultimatum to cultists, kidnappers, and criminal elements to vacate the state immediately or face the full weight of the law.
The governor’s warning followed the demolition of a notorious cult shrine and initiation base in Egbaen Community along Upper Siluko Road, Egor Local Government Area. The property, linked to alleged Maphite cult leader Marvelous Adetarami, had long served as a hub for cult activities and ritual practices.
The operation was carried out by the Edo State Special Security Squad, codenamed “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” in collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders.
Speaking to journalists at the site, Idemudia Noah, Coordinator of the Security Squad, explained that the building had initially been sealed after credible reports of ritual practices and cult activities. However, intelligence later revealed that the suspects resumed illegal gatherings under the cover of night, defying government orders.
“We got credible information that the suspected cult leader Marvellous Adetarami and his members still gathered to have their meetings in this sealed bungalow, where the horrible shrine was discovered,” Idemudia said.
Their defiance prompted the government to authorize the demolition, effectively eliminating what residents described as a “long-standing source of fear and insecurity” in the community.
Local residents, who had endured months of fear due to the activities of the cult group, welcomed the demolition with relief and applause.
“Neighbours and community members are joyous seeing the building pulled down, as they have lived in fear following the suspect’s activities,” Idemudia noted.
Governor Okpebholo has vowed to create a secure and law-abiding environment that promotes peace, development, and community well-being.
“Edo State Government has promised hard times for those perpetrating criminal activities across the state. There is no hiding place for them. Edo is no longer a safe haven for crime or criminality,” the Security Squad stressed.
Security operatives have invited Marvelous Adetarami for questioning, but reports indicate he has refused to appear, maintaining an air of impunity. Authorities assured that investigations are ongoing and that there will be no sacred cows in the crackdown.
Idemudia further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities:
“We encourage citizens across the state to inform security agencies of any such nefarious activities in their communities. Together, we can ensure a safer Edo for all.”
This development signals Edo State Government’s determination to stamp out cultism and violent crime, reinforcing the governor’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality.
