South African opposition leader, Julius Malema, on Saturday, stormed Lagos for a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Marina, ahead of his much-anticipated appearance at the Nigerian Bar Association’s annual general conference in Enugu.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a post shared on his official X handle, confirmed the meeting and described it as an honor to host the firebrand South African politician. “Today, I received Mr. Julius Malema, President of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters, on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina,” the governor wrote.

Malema was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, which included Babatunde Ogala, Chairman of the NBA Conference Logistics Committee.

The visit sets the stage for Malema’s keynote address at the NBA conference, where discussions will focus on African unity, cooperation, and the urgent need for good governance across the continent.

Malema, who has built a reputation as one of Africa’s most outspoken voices on economic justice and Pan-Africanism, remains a controversial yet influential figure. Despite heated debates over his past revolutionary chants, his message of equity and African solidarity continues to resonate with millions.

For Lagos, the meeting underscores the city’s role as more than Nigeria’s commercial capital—it is also a diplomatic hub where cross-border conversations about Africa’s future are taking shape.

The NBA conference is expected to draw thousands of lawyers, policymakers, and thought leaders from across Africa, with Malema’s address likely to be one of the most closely followed sessions.
