The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has received a donation of essential medical items from the Lifeline Advocacy & Development Initiative (LADI) to support patients in its Oncology Department. The donation, presented on Friday, August 22, 2025, included four wheelchairs, six three-seater chairs, three footstools, and five inspirational frames.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, represented by Professor Adebowale O. Adekoya, Director of Clinical Services and Training, expressed deep appreciation. He commended the Initiative for its thoughtful intervention, stressing that the items would be put to immediate use and would greatly benefit patients undergoing treatment for cancer. “We are always glad when people come forward to support the government. These items will help meet the needs of patients who are going through pain or living with cancer,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Bimbo Oloyede, Chief Executive Officer of LADI and veteran broadcaster, explained that the focus on the Oncology Department was deliberate and personal. She revealed that her family had experienced the devastating effects of cancer, losing loved ones to the disease. As a survivor herself, she said the Initiative chose to provide items that would directly improve the comfort and dignity of patients rather than food donations. “We decided to do something more impactful because of our personal experience with cancer. Our organisation, which was established to address the circumstances we faced, chose to focus on cancer. This led us to donate items that will provide comfort and convenience to patients,” she noted.
Mrs. Oloyede was accompanied by her daughter, Ms. Olubukola Oloyede, and Mrs. Oyeyemi Mustapha, who oversees publicity for the Initiative. Members of LASUTH Management, including Dr. Adeyinka Olawoye, Deputy Chairman, Clinical Advisory Committee (Clinical Services II); Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babarimisa, Deputy Director, Nursing Services (Training); and Mr. Olukayode Oyedele, Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts, were also in attendance.
Founded in March 2024, Lifeline Advocacy & Development Initiative (LADI) is a Nigerian non-governmental organisation committed to tackling the cancer crisis through advocacy, research promotion, and provision of support materials to public hospitals. Its interventions are aimed at making treatment more patient-centered and easing the burden of those battling the disease.
