Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has responded to a proposal by socio-political commentator Reno Omokri advocating for a work-free Friday in Nigeria. While acknowledging the suggestion, Sani argued that such an idea is not in alignment with Islamic teachings.
He pointed out that according to the Qur’an, Muslims are enjoined to attend Friday prayers but are instructed to return to their businesses and daily activities afterward, rather than treating the day as a holiday.
Sani’s position adds to the growing debate on balancing religious observances with national work schedules, especially in a diverse country like Nigeria where Friday, Saturday, and Sunday carry spiritual significance for different faith groups.
