
The 3-3 Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onitsha, Rev. CSP Chukwunonso Adulphus Onunkwor, has been widely commended following his collation as Canon of the Diocese on the Niger by Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo. The ceremony, which included the elevation of several clerics, emphasized commitment to moral conduct, dedication to the gospel, and service to humanity.
During the event, the Bishop advised the new canons to uphold the oath of office, avoid worldly temptations, and focus on spiritual leadership. In response, the canons pledged to abstain from vices and dedicate themselves to guiding their congregations.
The elevation of Rev. Canon Onunkwor has drawn praise from top state officials and community leaders. Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, lauded the DPO’s involvement in religious ministry, noting its contribution to peace and unity within the state.
Hon. Simeon Ogude, President of the Amalgamated Estates ‘33’ Community Association, commended the DPO for his dedication to security and infrastructural development, highlighting the harmonious relationship between the police and residents under his leadership. Onitsha Police Area Commander, Chidi Nzota, described Onunkwor’s religious calling as an inspiration, emphasizing that police service is a form of sacrifice to God and society.
Evangelist Vincent Ezekwueme, State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), added that the elevation would motivate the DPO to further excel in his service to both God and the community.
In his response, Canon Onunkwor humbly attributed the honor to God, reflecting on his lifelong commitment to ministry and policing. He described both roles as acts of service and sacrifice, emphasizing the importance of integrity and dedication in both spheres. His wife, Mrs. Chinonyerem Chikodili Onunkwor, also pledged to continue serving God and supporting her husband’s spiritual mission.
