The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully secured the conviction of one Dennis Tamarakuro for defrauding a U.S.-based non-governmental organisation, Pregnancy Support Network, of the sum of $71,795.41.
The convict was arraigned before the court on charges bordering on internet fraud and obtaining money by false pretence. After reviewing the evidence presented, the court found Tamarakuro guilty and subsequently convicted him.
According to the EFCC, Tamarakuro fraudulently misrepresented himself in order to obtain funds from the U.S.-based organisation, exploiting trust and diverting resources meant for charitable causes.
The judgment underscores the commission’s resolve to clamp down on cybercrime and fraud-related offences, particularly those targeting international victims.
Authorities have assured that recovered funds will be restituted where possible, while reiterating their commitment to prosecuting financial crimes without fear or favour.
