In a strategic move to improve energy access and enhance security in rural communities, the Executive Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Fidelis Nnazor, has officially launched the “Lighting Up Anambra West” project and distributed 1,000 solar-powered lights to communities across the LGA.
The launch, held on September 9, drew a wide array of stakeholders including community leaders, politicians, captains of industry, and residents, underscoring the importance of sustainable energy solutions in one of Anambra State’s riverine and agrarian regions.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nnazor explained that the project aims to provide clean, reliable, and affordable power to households, schools, health centers, and small businesses throughout the council. “This initiative will not only enhance night-time security but also stimulate economic and social activities across our rural communities,” he said.
The council chairman also acknowledged Governor Chukwuma Soludo for creating an enabling environment for community-focused initiatives, noting that the solar light distribution aligns with the governor’s vision for a livable, safe, and prosperous Anambra State.
Several stakeholders present at the event praised the local government for its proactive approach, emphasizing that the project will positively impact ordinary citizens’ lives and advance the adoption of renewable energy in the region.
The distribution of these solar light units represents one of the most ambitious actions undertaken by the Anambra West council administration to promote sustainable energy and foster community development.
