Following recent flooding that affected approximately 90 households in Jalingo Kamo, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected families.
On Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi, presented the relief items at the Village Head of Jalingo Kamo Palace. The materials, which include bags of rice, spaghetti, rubber mats, wrappers, and children’s clothing, were approved by Governor Yahaya.
Abdullahi Haruna Abdullahi explained that the agency conducted a thorough assessment and enumeration of affected persons, describing the incident as both unfortunate and distressing. He emphasized that the relief items are intended to alleviate the suffering of the affected families and are not a full compensation for their losses.
In his remarks, Honourable Yerima Ladan Gaule, Member representing Kaltungo East and Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, expressed sympathy to the affected families. He also assured the public of the government’s commitment to the welfare of citizens and encouraged residents to remain loyal and supportive of the Yahaya-led administration.
Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the community, the Village Head of Jalingo Kamo, Abdullahi Musa, thanked Governor Yahaya, the House Member, and SEMA for the gesture. He further appealed to the state government to consider constructing roads and installing streetlights to improve development and enhance security in the area.
The relief effort marks a proactive response by the Gombe State Government to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and support affected communities.
