Delta Govt Clarifies Ownership of Olomoro–Igbide Road Project

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has refuted claims suggesting that the Olomoro–Igbide Road project was a Federal Government intervention under the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). Aniagwu stressed that contrary to circulating reports on social media, the road project was neither initiated nor funded by the Federal Government but was solely a Delta State Government initiative under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

According to him, the State Executive Council approved the construction of the Olomoro–Igbide Road in August 2024 as part of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda on rural infrastructure, and the site was officially handed over to Lebtech Construction in November 2024. Aniagwu explained that the project has since been fully financed and delivered by the state government, meeting required specifications, and is now awaiting formal inauguration.

He noted that he personally supervised the project at different stages of construction to ensure that standards were maintained. He recalled joint inspections carried out with Governor Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, and the Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh. Aniagwu affirmed that the project is state-driven and ready for use, insisting that the quality of work delivered is of high standard.

His statement followed a report by Tracka, a civic group monitoring projects nationwide, which had earlier suggested that the road was being tracked as a federally funded intervention. Aniagwu appreciated the watchdog role of Tracka but cautioned the organisation to verify facts diligently before publication, warning that misleading claims could confuse the public.

While acknowledging that drainage work at the Olomoro end of the road is still being completed, the Commissioner maintained that the project is purely a Delta State Government initiative. He urged Tracka and similar organisations to exercise greater caution and accuracy in their reports to avoid misrepresentation.

Aniagwu reassured residents of Olomoro and Igbide that the road, which has been fully delivered, will soon be inaugurated. He further emphasised that the Olomoro–Igbide Road is one of many projects being executed across Delta State as part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to rural development and inclusive infrastructure growth.
