The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has commenced a new phase of infrastructure improvement with the rehabilitation and replacement of distribution networks in four mini and micro waterworks, covering Apapa I & II, Magodo I & II, Alexander I & II, and Magodo III & Isolo. The initiative aims to enhance access to potable water for residents across the state.

The Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Temitope Tijani, announced the project during a flag-off ceremony held on Thursday at the Corporation's Headquarters, Water-House Boardroom, Ijora, Lagos. Represented at the event by the Executive Director of Operations, Engr. (Mrs.) Helen Omolanke Taiwo, he emphasized that the Corporation is investing in both the improvement of existing infrastructure and the adoption of modern multi-modal asset management strategies to boost operational efficiency and service delivery.

Following a thorough assessment of the distribution networks, contracts were awarded to FBS Construction Engineering Services Ltd. for Magodo I & II, Serock Services Ltd. for Alexander I & II, Conswealth Nigeria Ltd. for Magodo III & Isolo, and Northcross Energy Ltd. for Apapa I & II, in line with Lagos State Public Procurement Agency guidelines. The projects were officially kicked off on Thursday, September 11, 2025, with an expected six-month timeline for completion.

Representatives from the Ministries of Economic Planning & Budget and Works and Infrastructure commended LWC for its commitment to improving water services. Mr. Fuad Oyede, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at MEPB, affirmed the Ministry’s support and pledged oversight to ensure timely delivery. Similarly, Engr. (Mrs.) Laolu Aishida, representing the Office of Infrastructure, highlighted the importance of inter-ministerial collaboration and requested engagement with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to address Right of Way issues as the projects advance.

Engr. Taiwo further noted that the rehabilitation works were critical, as the existing networks had surpassed their service life and required urgent replacement, similar to previous upgrades carried out in the Abesan and Baruwa areas. The presentation of detailed project designs to the contractors marked the official commencement of the work, signaling a significant step toward improving water accessibility and service reliability across Lagos State.
