The streets of Port Harcourt were filled with chants of unity on Saturday morning as residents braved heavy rains to participate in the Rivers Peace Initiative’s Joint Peace Walk, a symbolic call for harmony and stability across the state.

The march, which kicked off at CFC Junction and concluded at Government House, saw participants carrying banners and singing solidarity songs under the theme: “United for Peace, United for Rivers.” The initiative was aimed at reinforcing the message that Rivers people desire lasting peace above all political and social differences.

At Government House, the procession was formally received by a representative of the Sole Administrator, who accepted the group’s address. The document stressed that the fragile calm currently enjoyed in the state must not be disrupted, urging stakeholders to protect the peace as Rivers navigates its transition period.

The event drew a diverse crowd, including civil society leaders, members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, ethnic youth leaders, religious figures, entertainers, traders, and everyday citizens. Their collective presence highlighted the broad-based demand for peace as a non-negotiable foundation for progress in Rivers State.

Organizers of the Peace Walk also extended appreciation to media practitioners who endured the rains to capture and broadcast the event, ensuring that the message of unity and peace resonated far beyond the streets of Port Harcourt.
