In a renewed effort to combat gender-based violence (GBV), the Ondo State Police have conducted a training program aimed at equipping officers with the skills to effectively handle cases related to the menace. The initiative was held in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The training focused on ensuring officers respond professionally and sensitively to survivors of abuse, while guaranteeing that perpetrators are brought to justice.
State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the initiative became necessary due to the rising cases of gender-based violence nationwide. He emphasized the importance of law enforcement agents adopting global best practices in investigation, victim support, and prosecution.
“The Force remains committed to protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, especially women and children,” Lawal said, assuring that the training will be extended to other formations across the country.
The program also provided a platform for advocacy groups to call for stronger collaboration between security agencies, civil society organizations, and communities, reinforcing the collective fight against gender-based violence.
