Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Indian businessman Gupta Ravi Kumar and three Nigerian accomplices—Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb—in connection with the seizure of 2,248,000 tramadol pills at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. The consignment, imported from Delhi, India, disguised as multi-vitamins in 114 cartons, has an estimated street value of N3.99 billion.

The shipment was intercepted after NDLEA officers placed it under surveillance, leading to the arrest of a clearing agent and two drivers attempting to move the consignment. Subsequent operations resulted in the apprehension of Gupta Ravi Kumar.

In separate operations at MMIA, a passenger Onyeganochi Stanley Ifeanyi was intercepted with 900 grams of skunk cannabis concealed in crayfish, leading to the arrest of Qatar-based Nigerian, Ohadiegwu Anthony Uchenna, who was involved in the plot.

At Tincan Port, Lagos, NDLEA recovered 81.7kg of Canadian Loud and 1.2kg hashish oil from a 40ft container of vehicle spare parts imported from Montreal, Canada. Two suspects, John Ochigbo and Okeke Kingsley, were arrested. Another 65kg shipment of Loud was intercepted on Third Mainland Bridge, with the driver, Abubakar Ibrahim, arrested.

Additional seizures included methamphetamine concealed in picture frames and decoders, skuchies and cannabis blends in Ikorodu, Lagos, and multiple consignments of tramadol, cocaine, and skunk in Kano, Anambra, Edo, Yobe, and Ogun States. Arrests were made across the country, including Nzube and Ebele Onyedika in Anambra, Mohammed Auwal in Yobe, and four suspects at a cannabis plantation in Edo State.

NDLEA commands nationwide also continued sensitization activities through the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) program, targeting schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities in Enugu, Katsina, Niger, and Ogun States.

Chairman and CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their diligence in the arrests and seizures, urging continued commitment to balanced drug control across Nigeria.
