The Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, welcomed the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters in Abuja for an inspection of the newly built Centralized Passport Personalization Center. The visit provided an opportunity to witness a landmark moment in the modernization of passport services in Nigeria.
During the tour, technical partners guided the delegation through the facility, explaining the function and operation of each unit. Journalists in attendance were given first-hand access, gaining insight into the scale and sophistication of the center, which is equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to centralize passport production in one location. The move is expected to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and drastically reduce waiting times for Nigerians seeking passports.
Describing the new center as a long-awaited milestone, the Minister of Interior lauded the achievement as the most significant upgrade for the Nigeria Immigration Service since 1963. He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support, noting that the facility will boost daily passport production from 300 to 5,000 units, aligning Nigeria with global best practices. The modernization is expected to eliminate backlogs, ensuring that citizens receive passports in record time while enhancing transparency and accountability in the service.
The Comptroller-General emphasized the NIS’s commitment to providing seamless, efficient, and reliable passport services to all Nigerians, both at home and abroad. He assured the public that the center would transform the passport application process, making it faster and more accessible while maintaining international standards.
