Kano State Governor Orders Recruitment of 2,616 Teachers to Address Shortage in Public Primary Schools

The Kano State Government has announced the immediate recruitment of 2,616 qualified teachers to tackle the wide teacher-to-pupil ratio in public primary schools across the state. The move, ordered by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aims to enhance the quality of education and ensure that students receive adequate attention and instruction.

Speaking on Thursday, the Governor emphasized that education remains a top priority of his administration, noting that adequate staffing in schools is critical to improving learning outcomes and fostering holistic development among pupils. Governor Yusuf highlighted that the recruitment drive is part of broader efforts to strengthen the education sector, provide employment opportunities for qualified teachers, and reduce the burden on existing staff.

The state’s Ministry of Education confirmed that the recruitment process would target certified teachers with relevant qualifications and that successful candidates would be deployed strategically to schools with the greatest staffing gaps. The Ministry assured that the process would be transparent, merit-based, and inclusive, in line with government regulations.

Education experts welcomed the Governor’s decision, noting that a high teacher-to-pupil ratio has long been a challenge in Kano State, contributing to overcrowded classrooms and limited individual attention for pupils. They stressed that the new recruitment could significantly improve learning outcomes and create a more conducive environment for both teachers and students.

Parents and community leaders also expressed optimism, hoping that the initiative would reduce academic pressures on pupils and improve overall educational standards in public schools.

Governor Yusuf’s directive underscores his administration’s commitment to human capital development and reflects a broader national goal of ensuring quality basic education for all children.
