United Capital Plc has confirmed the tragic loss of six employees in the devastating fire that occurred at Afriland Towers, a six-storey commercial building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on September 16, 2025. The blaze, which reportedly started in the basement inverter room, also claimed the lives of four staff members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), bringing the total fatalities to ten.

In a statement shared on its official social media channels, United Capital described the loss as “immeasurable,” highlighting the pivotal roles the employees played within the company. Plans are being made to hold a memorial service to honor their lives and contributions.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over safety standards in commercial buildings, with calls for stricter regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
