Gombe State is set to hold its first-ever Health Summit in October, a move aimed at deepening reforms in the state’s healthcare sector under Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

The two-day summit, billed for October 2–3, 2025, will attract high-profile participants, including the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hajiya Amina Mohammed. Members of the National Assembly, development partners, civil society groups, and medical experts are also expected.

With the theme “Transforming the Healthcare System in Gombe State: Accomplishments, Challenges, and the Next Frontier,” discussions will center on sustainable health financing, partnerships, and strategies to achieve universal health coverage.

The summit will also witness the launch of key policy frameworks such as the Human Resource for Health Policy and Strategy and the “Flow of Confidence” initiative designed to improve service delivery. An Ambulance Emergency Initiative for rapid response in medical emergencies is also on the agenda.

As part of the event, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will commission several flagship health projects executed by the state government. These include the upgraded Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, the College of Nursing Sciences, and the Children’s Hospital, Malam Inna.

Health Commissioner, Dr. Habu Dahiru, described the summit as a turning point that will not only shape Gombe’s health system but also set a benchmark for reforms across Nigeria.

Governor Yahaya’s administration has been widely commended for prioritizing healthcare investment, and expectations are high that the summit will chart a new course for the state’s health sector.
