Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved an ambitious plan to upgrade key cultural tourist sites across Osogbo, Ilesa, Ife, and Ede, as part of his administration’s drive to expand tourism and the creative industry in Osun State. The initiative aims to boost tourist inflow by over 60 percent within the next year.

The state government has adopted a public-private partnership (PPP) approach to develop major attractions such as the Erin Ijesa Waterfalls in Oriade Local Government, ensuring sustainable financing and long-term management of these sites. The Ministry of Arts and Culture is coordinating phased upgrades with the goal of meeting UNESCO heritage standards.

Among the sites earmarked for development are the Ifá Agbaye Temple in Ile Ife, the Iwude Ijesa project, and the Sango Timi Shrine, which includes sacred groves, pavilions, art and craft workshops, and museum facilities. The globally recognized Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove will continue to receive focused state support.

Governor Adeleke highlighted that all projects would follow proper budgetary and procurement processes, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transparency. “Expanding tourist inflow is a key programme within our agenda. As the cradle of the Yoruba nation, we have so much to showcase and attract global attention,” he said.

The governor also emphasized collaboration with the private sector to achieve sustainable tourism growth, with project updates and progress to be publicly accessible through the state’s procurement website.
