Governor Eno Swears in New Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council, Calls for Peace and Unity

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has sworn in the Paramount Ruler of Abak Local Government Area, Akuku Saviour Sylvester Udofia, as the new Chairman of the State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, urging continuous partnership between traditional institutions and government to foster peace, unity, and development across the State.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers, announcing an upward review of their monthly allowances effective October 1, 2025, and approving the appointment of Personal Assistants for each Paramount Ruler. He highlighted government interventions, including provision of official vehicles, healthcare support beyond the quarterly packages, and enhancement of stipends and upkeep allowances.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of collaboration between Paramount Rulers and Local Government Chairmen, noting that harmonious relationships are essential for attracting investors and promoting development. He urged rulers to respect the constitutional roles of Local Government Chairmen while ensuring grassroots peace and cooperation.

He also announced plans for health insurance coverage for monarchs and their spouses, further underscoring his administration’s dedication to the traditional institution. Governor Eno commended the immediate past Chairman, Odidem Etim Edet, for his meritorious service and congratulated the new Chairman and newly-recognized traditional rulers who received certificates of recognition.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, praised Governor Eno for creating an environment of peace, political tolerance, and bipartisanship that allows citizens to thrive. President-General of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, thanked the Governor for prompt payment of arrears and allowances, calling on the new Chairman to continue promoting peace and unity.

The immediate past Chairman, Odidem Edet, also expressed gratitude to the Governor and pledged continued support for the stability and unity of the State.
