The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, welcomed the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, and his delegation on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The engagement reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and NOUN, with both institutions working together to expand opportunities for officers to pursue quality, affordable, and flexible education while serving the nation. Discussions centered on sustaining access to higher learning for police personnel across Nigeria, thereby strengthening professional standards within the Force.
IGP Egbetokun commended NOUN for its consistent support, noting that education plays a critical role in shaping well-rounded officers capable of addressing the complex challenges of modern policing. He stressed that empowering officers through knowledge not only benefits the institution but also enhances the confidence and trust of the communities they serve.
Professor Peters, in his remarks, assured the Force of NOUN’s commitment to deepening the collaboration, emphasizing that the university’s open and distance learning system remains tailored to meet the unique needs of law enforcement officers who must balance duty with personal development.
The renewed collaboration is expected to translate into a more knowledgeable and professional police service. By improving the capacity of officers through continuous education, the initiative will help boost operational efficiency, foster better decision-making, and strengthen public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
