The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, Ayuku Pwaspo, has commended Stallion Times Media Services for organizing a training program aimed at equipping journalists with the ethical considerations of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the newsroom. She described the initiative as timely, especially as AI technology becomes an integral part of modern journalism.
Pwaspo urged journalists to deepen their understanding of AI, particularly regarding issues of copyright and public trust, emphasizing that professional ethics should remain the guiding principle in all news reporting. She expressed hope that participants would leave the training better prepared to serve the public good, the core responsibility of the profession.
Speaking earlier, the editor-in-chief of Stallion Times, Isiyaku Ahmed, highlighted the need for journalists to embrace technological advancements as the media landscape evolves daily. Addressing the topic, “Artificial Intelligence and Ethical Consideration in the Newsroom,” Ahmed noted that AI can enhance efficiency in content creation and analysis, but stressed that journalists must remain committed to the ethics of the profession, including accuracy, transparency, truth, fairness, and accountability.
Ahmed further advised participants not to allow AI tools to compromise their values, reminding them that the professional code of conduct should guide their work even in a digitally driven environment.
The one-day training exposed participants to various AI tools such as ChatGPT, Capcut, and Turboscribe, among others. A highlight of the event was the presentation of copies of the professional code of conduct to the NUJ chairman at the broad room of the NUJ Secretariat in Jos.
The training is expected to strengthen the professional capabilities of journalists in Plateau State, equipping them to responsibly leverage digital tools while upholding the ethical standards of journalism.
